Dress Code

Every student must follow the dress code guidelines listed below for each class. Dress code is very important in dance class for instructors to see proper body alignment and posture to make corrections. Each style of dance has specific requirements. If you take multiple classes back to back please check with the instructor as to what is appropriate as to avoid changing after each class. If a student comes to class consistently not following dress code they will not be able to participate in class.

*A black leotard is required for all students. (No unitards or bike shorts).

*Hair must be tied back away from the face in a ponytail, braid, bun, etc. The hair must be secured tightly with the necessary hair clips used so that it does not fall out. This can be a distraction during class, disrupting the dancer’s ability to dance effectively and it can be considered dangerous if hair accessories fall onto the floor.

*Students may where form fitting DANCE SWEATERS (no sweatshirts or school sweaters).

*Sheer dance skirts, black Jazz leggings or shorts for Jazz, Lyrical and Tap only (must be form fitting).

Studio Policies

Drop off and Pick Up:

Level 1 and below we ask that parents please bring your dancer into the studio for class. It is not required that you stay for the duration of class but for safety we need an adult present to walk the dancer in and wait with them until class begins. Parents may wait outside if the Lobby is crowded for pick up and teachers will make sure that dancers go to the appropriate adult. Please do not bring your dancer earlier than 10 minutes before the start of class.

Tardiness:

Students who are tardy miss valuable class time including essential warm-up and stretching. This is crucial to loosen and warm up the muscles of the body to prevent injury. In addition, they disrupt fellow students by walking into class late. Please try to arrive to class 5-10 minutes prior to the start time for time for changing, putting on shoes, etc. If you are going to be late we ask that you please call the studio to let us know otherwise, students that are consistently tardy will not be allowed to enter class late.

No gum or hard candy:

Students are not allowed to chew gum or hard candy during class. A child may choke or get gum on the dance floor. Please spit all gum and/or candy out before entering class.

Be respectful:

All students must listen to their instructor and be respectful of one another. Students who disrupt class may be asked to leave class. Parents should discuss with their child good listening skills and proper behavior during class. Having fun is important, however, we are there to learn and we must be respectful of others in the class.

No rough physical contact:

There will be absolutely NO hitting, kicking, pushing, etc. in the studio. Any student caught doing this will be dismissed from class with the possibility of being expelled from the studio if the behavior continues. This behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!

No foul language:

Swearing, harassing, or teasing in the studio is not tolerated under any circumstances. Any student caught partaking in any of these actions will be asked to leave class and possibly the studio if the behavior continues. We are there to work together as a team, not to single anyone out.

No valuables:

Please leave any valuable items at home. Dance & Beyond is not responsible for any missing or broken items.

Do not leave your children unattended:

Please keep an eye on siblings in the studio. Do not let them head into the dancer’s room, other studio, bathrooms, or parking lot unattended. Please keep your children quiet during class time as it is distracting to the dancers during class.

Restrooms:

Please advise your child to use the restroom before the start of class.

No Running:

There is no running allowed in the studio. This includes the dance rooms, hallways and back room.

Snow Days:

Please call the studio one hour before the start of class to see if classes will be held and there will be a message on the recorder. There will also be a mass email sent if classes will not be held that day.

Make Ups:

If a student misses class due to sickness or other obligations, they will be allowed to attend another class of his/her level within 2 weeks of the missed class. Please ask the instructor what class may be appropriate and let us know when you will be attending.
